Northern Flow Studio

Northern Flow Studio is a collective of yoga teachers, practitioners, and artists weaving an eclectic stream of offerings and healing modalities in North Bay, Ontario.

Our intention is to help you find your Flow state within a safe and inclusive space for self-expression, self-exploration, healing, and community gathering with kindred spirits.

Natalie DeMarco

Yoga Teacher, Kinesiologist, Thai Yoga massage practitioner.

As the owner of Northern flow studio, she aims to create a welcoming and inclusive studio environment, where everyone can explore the benefits of yoga and all other offerings regardless of their age, race, body type, or physical fitness. YOGA & MOVEMENT are for EVERYONE.

Her fascination with the human body has led her down various avenues of training to provide a wholesome and therapeutic experience through yoga, exercise, and bodywork. 

Natalie has been teaching Yoga since 2018 and practicing since 2012. She holds a RYT-500hr certification through Yoga Alliance by combining her 200-hour classical Hatha yoga teacher training from Rishikesh India, and 300-hour training with Jules Mitchell Yoga. She regularly attends training, courses, and workshops to continue to grow as a teacher and practitioner. Her particular styles of practice are Hatha yoga, restorative yoga, Iyengar yoga and Ashtanga yoga.  

In addition to teaching group classes, Natalie offers private sessions tailored to individual needs, as well as kinesiology and personal training sessions for seniors. She continues to be an active Thai yoga massage practitioner over the last decade, acquiring her training in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

  • Rob Joanisse

    Originally from North Bay, Rob Joanisse was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga by his primary teachers Mark Darby and Allison Ulan at the Ashtanga Yoga Studio in Montreal in 1998. He completed the studio’s 500-hour teacher certification course and is certified with Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500) and has been teaching yoga since 2001. Rob has also studied Iyengar yoga with Hart Lazer, one of North America’s foremost yoga instructors, attended numerous workshops with Pattabhi Jois, Sharath, Richard Freeman, Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty. He is also an accomplished professional drummer; won a Juno Award with Bran Van 3000; recorded with Ric Ocasek of The Cars; teaches drum lessons and accompanies yoga and dance classes.

  • Alex Albert

    Alex Albert is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), Registered Yoga Teacher, Cycle Educator, and Professional Astrologer. For over a decade, yoga has helped her come home to herself over and over again. In 2019, she travelled to Costa Rica to complete a 200hr Vinyasa-based YTT at Lakshmi Rising School of Yoga & Wellness. Alex is now passionate about helping others on their homecoming journey with integrative modalities. She also aims to embody the roots of yoga and encourages students to implement its principles off the mat. Join her in studio for weekly classes, private offerings, and special events.

  • Pamela Simpson

    Pamela loves to focus on the amazing healing capacity of our bodies through the alchemy of intention with mind and spirit.   
    She uses a medley of approaches from her training in Hatha, Vinyasa, Kundalini yoga and Reiki alongside her background in sports, healthcare, breathwork and medicine wheel teachings.   
    Her regular fit and flow classes focus on strengthening and stretching while she also runs limited themed series and workshops.  
    Classes typically start with an intention and end with a restorative, guided Shavasana.

  • Phoenix McCoy

    Phoenix has a passion for helping others get strong, away from pain and reintegrate movement that was previously limited. One of his specialties is working with people who have been dealing with chronic pain in their joints with no relief. The methods he uses from his education and continued training are innovative yet effective. He has been coaching and training others for over 11 years and has recently graduated from Massage Therapy.

  • Rhiannah Pinkerton

    Rhiannah was born in North Bay and has recently returned to the area, to attend the Social Service Worker program at Canadore College. She plans to pursue further education to become a registered psychotherapist specializing in bereavement and nature therapy. Rhiannah is an outdoor enthusiast, and yoga is one of her many passions. She recently obtained her yoga teacher training while travelling abroad in Indonesia and is eager to offer gentle flows that are inclusive for beginners, and all levels are welcome. She is very much looking forward to connecting with you on the mat!

  • Aura Rapai

    Aura is a certified fitness instructor and yoga teacher. She has been leading outdoor bootcamps, working alongside athletes and teaching various other group fitness classes for 7+ years. In 2017, Aura went to India to learn the art of Yoga through a 200Hr teacher training with Vinyasa Yoga School. Aura then returned in 2019, as a lead Vinyasa teacher in a 200hr YTT at Veda Yoga Ashram. 
    For Aura, movement is medicine but it’s in stillness, she believes, where all the magic happens. As a teacher, and human, Aura prides herself in being able to deeply appreciate and learn from everyone who crosses her path. Aura enjoys diversity in her classes and will incorporate different styles to create a class she feels is most effective for her student.

  • Anne Bentley

    Anne is a certified Hatha Yoga Teacher with over 500 hours of training, including her ongoing studies at the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre. Anne is also, a registered holistic Usui Level II Reiki Practitioner, and the owner of Yogasense and Wellness, in North Bay. Over the last 28 years, and throughout the many changes and stages of life, yoga, meditation and spiritual inquiry have been a foundational and consistent part of Anne’s personal journey and self-healing. In 2013 Anne received her first 200hr RYT, and began teaching and sharing the healing and therapeutic benefits of Yoga and the many branches of yoga. Anne’s passion and goal is to empower her students to progress towards a greater state of health and wholeness, restoring the body- mind back to its natural state of balance.

  • Shayne Brazeau

    Shayne graduated from Sheridan College with an Honours Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences (Athletic Therapy). Shayne grew up in North Bay and has always been devoted to health and fitness which lead to his interest for Athletic Therapy. He has spent many hours with college-level sports teams including rugby, football, volleyball, and hockey. Throughout his degree, he learned how to assess and treat musculoskeletal injuries and completed his First Responder certification. Shayne has also worked in multiple clinics where he gained experience and realized his passion for the clinical environment. Shayne loves everything to do with the outdoors, from camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing

Substitute instructors/ Kindred spirits

  • James Belisle

    They say yoga comes into your life when you are ready. When that time came, James was inspired and introduced to the true depth of yoga by someone very dear to him, who truly lives and embodies the practice. James quickly became a dedicated practitioner, which was life-changing and transformational on every level -fostering profound benefits of peace, awareness, strength and alignment across physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.
    Primarily a practitioner of Ashtanga Yoga, James has also been trained in Hatha, completing his 200Hr and 40Hr Restorative YTT at Octopus Garden in Toronto, where he was privileged to study under Pat Harada Linfoot, Darcie Ladd, Jenn Helland and Ron Reid. While continuing to learn from these mentors, as well as Rob Joanisse and Eddie Stern, James occasionally teaches at Northern Flow!

  • Amanda Brownlee

    Amanda Brownlee is an energetic and positive presence who enjoys leading classes and individuals to their best selves through yoga. She earned her 200 hour YTT in 2019 and has since assisted with additional YTT programs, studied in India and is continues to refine and enhance her practice. Amanda can always be counted on to lead a vigorous class that challenges yogis of all levels. When she's not substituting for Rob, you can find her teaching hot yoga at Grounded Studios.

Studio Etiquette:

Most of our classes allow for drop-ins

(unless otherwise indicated as pre-register only), however we do love to know in advance if you are coming. You can pre-register by using the registration in the calendar and signing in with your email.

Do your best not to be late so as to not disrupt the class in general.

If you must leave early, please inform your instructor before the class so we can position you near the door to limit disruption.

Please keep your valuables with you!

We will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items.

Turn off or silence your phones.

Please remember to do this before class.

Please refrain from using any strong perfumes or colognes.

At times, some of our instructors may light some incense or burn sage prior to a class/ event. If you have sensitivities to this please inform the instructor so it doesn’t happen if you are attending.

No food or drink in the studio.

The exception of water bottles with lids to prevent spills.

Honour yourself and your limitations.

If a class is too strenuous or challenging, respect your abilities and take rest when you need to. Talk to your instructor about modifications or if you are not feeling well.
